I recently had a problem with non functioning starter motor on my 600 RC 89/90, luckily it was warm and I managed to kick start it to get home.
Having checked voltage from battery to relay I found voltage all good, connections ok etc. Because of where the relay sits it is impossible to short across the relay to check the starter motor so I decided to check the relay and removed it. I put 12 volts across the low voltage contacts but no “click” could be heard indicating that the relay was faulty. I also noticed that there was no fuse in the relay or sign of the remains of a fuse. I reassembled and installed the relay to check if the fuse made any difference; didn’t seem to. I need to remove again and short the high voltage contacts off the bike to check the starter is still ok. One very strange thing is that on re-installing the relay the loom was live, with lights horn etc on but the ignition was turned off! Any suggestions, it appeared fine before hand. I’ve spent ages looking at the wiring diagram but have no idea what’s going on! Help please
